(...) the last thing you could say about the performance of the Orkiestra Historyczna led by the concertmaster Martyna Pastuszka, is that it is monotonous: seven instrumentalists played with much freshness and momentum. (...)
Guido Krawinkel, Bonner General-Anzeiger

?(...) A truly interesting moment came at the end of the concert with the performance of Telemann?s Quartett G-dur (?); the stylistic contrast to the preceding suite was striking and shed light on the stylistic diversity of Telemann?s ouvre as well as on the uniquely colourful and refined performance of Orkiestra Historyczna."
Guido Krawinkel, Bonner General-Anzeiger

(...) I hope that more Polish cities will be able to hear the {oh!} soon and sigh in admiration for their music. Therefore: Orkiestra Historyczna! Please, give us more!
Agnieszka Nowok, Ruch Muzyczny

Oh, what an orchestra have we got! (...) They showed real class. After all, its members are musicians of not only national but also European renown. (...) Their Vivaldi, Veracini and Bach were marvelous. (...)
Łukasz Kałębasiak, Gazeta Wyborcza, Katowice

It is pleasing to assist at the birth of an ensemble which has been an ensemble from the very beginning, and that is masterful indeed. (...).
Dorota Szwarcman

(...) The Orkiestra Historyczna showed its class both during the instrumental part of the concert as well is in the role of accompaniment to the vocal soloist. (...)

{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna / Vincent Dumestre
In less than a week, {oh!} Orkiestra Historzyczna will perform a programme consisting of works written by 17th and 18th Century composers. The ensemble will be led by one of the foremost instrumentalists specialising in early music of that period: Vincent Dumestre.

At the seat of NOSPR in Katowice, music lovers will have the opportunity to hear works written by George Frideric Haendel, Anton Raetzel, Johann Christoph Richter and Georg Philipp Telemann. They will be interpreted by Vincent Dumestre, French Lutist and founder of Le Poème Harmonique, who have been awarded the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros and the Diapason d’Or, among others. Acting as concertmaster, the audience will once again witness Martyna Pastuszka, the founder of {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna and lecturer at the Academy of Music in Katowice, who is highly praised among European critics for her excellent musicianship and artistic personality.

The programme of the concert will contain both purely orchestral works and concerts for solo instruments. For Telemann’s concert for three horns and violin, Martyna Pastuszka will be joined by three musicians who are {oh!}’s regular guests: Bart Aerbeydt, Ricardo Rodriguez and Renske Wijma. The solo part of Raetzel concerto will be performed by the magnificent gambist, Krzysztof Firlus, who has been affiliated with {oh!} since its inception.

{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna / POLISH MUSIC
{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna opened their 2018/2019 concert season at European stages. At the end of September, the ensemble made its debut at the Theater an der Wien, garnering highly enthusiastic reviews: according to one of them, the orchestra „floored everyone”. It seems then, that {oh!} is not going to tone their endeavours down for a single minute, which we will be able to hear for ourselves quite soon: on November 16th, the ensemble will open this season's edition of the „Early Music at NOSPR” concert series.

Martyna Pastuszka, Orkiestra Historyczna's concertmaster, has been consistently broadening the ensemble's repertoire, not stopping at baroque and classical works. The upcoming concert will be filled with romantic music, which has not yet been performed by {oh!} at NOSPR. However, by no means will the choice of works be a random set of pieces from that period. The repertoire performed that evening will be an excellent complement to the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Polish independence: {oh!} will present wrongly forgotten pearls of polish romantic music.

During their regular concerts at NOSPR, {oh} Orkiestra Historyczna not infrequently performs with invited soloists. The audience has become accustomed to {oh!}'s exceptionally deft choice of stage partners, who are often musicians of the highest calibre. It will be no different this time since the soloist for the concert on 16th November will be Jakub Jakowicz, one of Poland's leading violinists. Highly estemeed both in Poland and abroad, Jakowicz is nonetheless usually remembered from concerts he performs with top-shelf modern orchestras. Thus, his performance with {oh} will be a true rarity for music lovers and violin enthusiasts.

The concert will be preceded by unique events: lectures and masterclasses. Orkiestra Historyczna invited Clive Brown, a musicologist, professor of the University of Leeds and the author of the most important publications dealing with the style, techniques and performance practices of Romanticism. This is an unprecedented event in Poland: {oh!}, inspired by leading European orchestras, invests in its development by forming a cooperation with a so-called orchestral coach, which will undoubtedly lead to an even more interesting timbre of the orchestra at the upcoming concert and in the future.

Tickets for {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna's concert are available at www.nospr.org.pl and in the Ticket Office at NOSPR. For more information, visit www.orkiestrahistoryczna.pl and Orkiestra Historyczna's Facebook page.

H.I.F. Biber – Harmonia artificioso-ariosa / Early Music in NOSPR
No sooner had the thundering applause after {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna's last concert died out than the ensemble started the preparations for their next musical event. Their last performance at the Katowice Kultura Natura festival drew a huge crowd of listeners to NOSPR's Concert Hall. The world-famous cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, who was the soloist for the concert, complimented the city of Katowice on its “amazing orchestra”while the audience gave the musicians a standing ovation which lasted for several minutes. Although one could relish the memories of this unique event for a longer period of time, {oh!} is taking no rest in order to give another concert as soon as on 25th May.

This time, the ensemble will present a stunning Baroque repertoire at NOSPR's Chamber Hall. Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber's works, including his famous Harmonia artificiosa-ariosa, will constitute the core of the programme. The above mentioned work is a set of seven partias (suite-like pieces) for varying chamber line-ups: two violins, violin and viola, as well as two viole d'amore, accompanied by the basso continuo group in each piece. The audience will also have the opportunity to hear Martyna Pastuszka's rendition of Anton Schmelzer's Violin Sonata as well as two examples of a Bataglia: one written by Biber and the other by Annibale Padovano.

Orkiestra Historyczna has proven multiple times that its members are not only excellent inside the orchestra setting, but they are also brilliant soloists and chamber musicians, which they demonstrated numerous times in multiform lineups. The concert programme, chosen by Martyna Pastuszka, will give the audience another opportunity to listen to individual members of the ensemble. By turns, all musicians of the orchestra will perform as soloists of Biber's Partias, with two different basso continuo groups serving as accompaniment.

Another interesting aspect of the upcoming concert are the instruments used by {oh!}. Apart from the sound of the earlier mentioned typically Baroque viole d'amore, the listeners will be able to hear unusual violin and viola timbres: a different scordatura is used in each of the pieces, which means that the instruments will be tuned differently than usual. The use of this technique greatly enriches the range of sound timbres, which in turn will surely intensify our musical experience.

Tickets for {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna's concert are available at www.nospr.org.pl and at NOSPR's ticket office. For more information see: www.orkiestrahistoryczna.pl and Orkiestra Historyczna's Facebook page.

J. A. Hasse - Arminio tournée 2016!
After premiere in Gliwice, the opera will also be presented to audiences in Prague and Ostrava, thanks to the support of the City of Gliwice and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

October 4, 2016 Praga
October 5, 2016 Ostrava

The work will be performed in its stage version for the first time in at least 150 years. The premiere of Arminio, composed by Johann Adolf Hasse, who was the royal composer at the Polish King and Elector of Saxony August II the Strong's court, took place in Milan in 1730. Revised editions of this opera were performed occasionally in 1747 and 1753. The work was also staged in Warsaw in a theatre called Operalnia in 1761, during a magnificent period for music in our country: a time when musical life in Poland flourished thanks to the royal patronage of August the Second. {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna represented by Dominika Małecka, a violinist, music theorist and {oh!} member, undertook the task of recreating the work from the sole existing manuscript score dating back to 1753. Thanks to her work, the opera will reappear on stage during the 9th International Festival All'improvviso in Gliwice, 300 years after its completion and at least 150 years since its last performance. The turbulent fortunes of the ancient Germanic hero Arminio are presented by seven personages played by soloists from Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic. The main roles will be rendered by two magnificent singers of European renown: the Czech soprano Marketa Cukrova and the Polish tenor Karol Kozłowski. The scenic design of the production has been entrusted to the exceptionally talented Czech director, Marek Mokoš, who is a graduate of the Opera Staging department of the Leoš Janaček Academy of Music in Brno.

{oh!} 8th International Festival of Improvised Early Music All?improvviso
On 21st September {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna performed the opera Didone Abbandonata during the International Festival of Early Improvised Music All?improvviso at the Theatre Ruins in Gliwice.
The 8th edition of the All?improvviso festival, entitled Musical Landscapes, is intended to become an audio-visual journey through the ancient ?musical galleries? of Europe. The Festival will host numerous outstanding musicians from all over the world, many of whom have not performed in Poland before. Those artists use original early instruments or their exact copies, concentrating nonetheless on the universal appeal of improvised music, which finds its reflection also in jazz and world music. One of the main aims of the project is the popularisation of early music realised through lectures and Q and A sessions.
Didone Abbandonata is the first libretto written by Pietro Metastasio (1698-1782), one of the most famous authors of operatic texts of the Baroque period. This work started his brilliant career, during which he wrote librettos for such marvellous opera composers as Vivaldi, Haendel and Mozart. Domenico Sarri?s opera was the first set to this libretto. Thanks to a cooperation of {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna with the theorbist and musicologist Jan Čižmář, outstanding czech and slovak soloists, as well as the director Tomáš Pilař, the opera was brought back to the stage in 2014 at the Reduta Theatre in Brno, where it met with a very enthusiastic reception of the audience and considerable critical acclaim. After three centuries, the artists are staging this opera as an image of the culture of our ancestors seen through the eyes of contemporary artists. The set design, which combines a modern approach with Baroque tradition, allows for easy transportation of the production, and consequently, for its staging within diverse spaces. Didone Abbandonata is an opera that appeals not only to connoisseurs, but also to a wider audience.

{oh!} Dramma per Musica Baroque Opera Festival
{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, in cooperation with Czech and Slovak artists, has prepared the staging of a baroque opera with period instruments. The work staged was the first musical setting of Pietro Metastasio?s libretto, which was later used by various composers for fifty different operas. The opera tells the story of Dido and Aeneas, which appeared for the first time in Virgil?s Aeneid. Diddone Abbandonata was premiered in Naples in 1724 and, in 1734, the opera was staged in the Czech city of Brno.??

{oh!} and the opening night of the Music Theatre in Valtice castle
The bright and developing {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, our region?s first early music orchestra, participated in yet another international project. As a result of the lasting cooperation with Czech partners and the success of several of our joint undertakings, the time has come for the largest and most important event in our partnership: {oh!} was invited to take part in a highly prestigious and unique event. Together with soloist from Czech, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Austria, the orchestra inaugurated the newly formed Czech National Institute of Theatre and Dance, initiated by the Czech National Heritage Institute.
During the Feste Teatrale event, the artists performed Domenico Sarri?s Diddone Abbandonata in the reconstructed Music Theatre at the Valtice Castle, therewith inaugurating its stage. The Valtice castle, the former seat of the Liechtenstein family, is a beautiful palace, which can be found on UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition to performing the opera Didone Abbandonata twice, {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna gave several chamber concerts.
Silesian music lovers may remember last year?s performance of the opera at the Krystyna Bochenek Culture Centre in Katowice. This year, the soloists include Laila Cathleen Neuman (Holland), Armin Gramer (Austria), Roman Hoza (Czech Republic), Michaela Kušteková (Slovakia) and Jakub Kubin (Czech Republic) among others. {oh!} performed in an extended line-up, with Czech artists led by the lutist Jan Čižmář. After Prague, Ankara, Istanbul, Altena and Brühl, this is another international project, which serves to prove that {oh!} is indeed becoming a cultural trademark of the city of Katowice, thereby fulfilling its mission.
After the performances in Valtice, which will take place on 12th and 13th September, the whole ensemble will embark on a concert tour, visiting Brno, Gliwice and Warszawa. The participation of {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna in this unique project is cofinanced by the Katowice City Hall.

{oh!} at the 16th Gliwice Bach Festival
{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, which has conquered numerous stages in Poland and abroad, once again took the Silesian audience for a musical journey using period instruments. On 24th July at the All Saints? Church in Gliwice, the ensemble took part in the 16th edition of the Gliwice Bach Festival, performing a concert entitled ?? travers le Baroque?. The title can be seen as a paranomasia, since the concert was intended as a journey through Baroque music with the traverso flute. The orchestra performed with the magnificent flautist Alexis Kossenko, who is widely acclaimed for his renditions of Antonio Vivaldi?s and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach?s flute concertos. The concert at the All Saints? Church in Gliwice was a unique opportunity to experience the musicianship of this wonderful artist live. Alexis Kossenko performed one of the virtuoso concertos composed by the Potsdamer Bach, as well as the brilliant and exquisitely beautiful secular cantata entitled ?Non sa che sia dolore? for soprano and flute BWV 209 written by Bach, the father. The concert also featured the German early cantata specialist Karolina Brachman, who sang two of George Frederic Haendel?s concert arias.
